Parkway Pharmacy started in Arab in 1972, a single counter, a single pharmacist, and a standard for customer service that hasn't moved since.
Our story
Parkway opened in Arab in 1972, the last year that Apollo astronauts walked on the moon. Arab was smaller then. The pharmacy was smaller too. But the standard was already there: a real pharmacist behind the counter, a real conversation with every customer, and prescriptions filled accurately the first time.
Over five decades, generations of Marshall County families learned the rhythm of stopping by Parkway. Parents would pick up the kids' antibiotics on the way home from the doctor. Grandparents would refill blood-pressure prescriptions and walk out with the current Arab Tribune. To this day, Pharmacists and Technicians take tremendous pride in caring for their community. Continuity over generations is the entire job.
In 2025, Parkway Pharmacy East opened in Guntersville, directly across Hwy 69 from Marshall Medical Center North. The same family. The same standards. A second location for the same patients who were already driving from Albertville, Boaz, and the lake area to see us. Same counter feeling, just closer to home for some of our new and existing customers.
Fifty-plus years serving the local community
The original Parkway Pharmacy opens in Arab, family-owned, single counter, hand-counted prescriptions. Ms. Jean Bobo was at the front counter when Parkway Pharmacy opened back in 1972. She is still serving at South's front counter today.
Through the rise of the chain pharmacies, Parkway stays independent, and stays the first call when something doesn't feel right.
Parkway adopts modern refill-coordination tools and the Rx365 app, bringing the convenience of a chain to the original Arab counter without losing the relationship of a family business.
Parkway Pharmacy expands east, opening on Hwy 69 across from Marshall Medical Center North. Parkway Pharmacy South is Awarded Arab Business of the Year.
Parkway South in Arab and Parkway East in Guntersville share staff training, ownership, prescription standards, and the same friendly counter.
What family-owned actually means
No phone tree. No "press 4 for refills." When you call either Parkway location, a Parkway Pharmacy team member picks up the phone.
Continuity matters. The same Parkway East pharmacists in Guntersville fill your prescriptions month after month, so they remember the medication that gave you a rash and the supplement your cardiologist asked about.
If your prescription will be cheaper as a generic, we say so. If your insurance won't cover it but a manufacturer coupon will, we say that too. No coupon-app theater. No surprise pricing at the register.

Family-owned means staying. Parkway South has been on the same block in Arab since 1972, and Parkway East opened in Guntersville in 2024, we plan to be at both stores for the next fifty years too.

Parkway East, Guntersville
Oversees the on-site compounding lab and coordinates discharge prescriptions with Marshall Medical Center North across Hwy 69, and runs the comprehensive medicine review consultations.
Parkway South, Arab
Supports Parkway Pharmacy South's day-to-day pharmacy care in Arab, helping customers with prescriptions, refills, and medication questions.
